Written for readers in Alberta

Alberta opened a private online gambling market on the thirteenth of July 2026, the second province in Canada to do so (a market only months old). Operators register with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (the AGLC throughout this page) and sign a "commercial agreement" with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, which conducts and manages the market; Play Alberta, run by the AGLC itself, continues alongside them.

Every operator above is registered with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis, with the corporate entity as the register writes it. The AGLC publishes the list of approved sites, which is longer than this one, and it is the list to check against.

A market that is months old

The iGaming Alberta Act passed in the spring of 2025 and the market opened on the thirteenth of July 2026. By the middle of October about fifty sites had been approved, which is the only number on this page likely to have changed since. The "transition period" for operators that had been serving Albertans without authorisation ended on the thirteenth of October 2026, so that from that date an unauthorised operator is expected to stop (and one that ignored the transition risked being found "unsuitable for registration" altogether).

As at the twenty-seventh of October 2026 there was no documented enforcement action against an unauthorised site, no "blocklist" and no "payment blocking" (a description of the public record as we found it, not a prediction). The responsible minister has said he intends to use every lever available, including approaches to Apple, Google and the social platforms, but nothing has been published (so the "levers" remain a statement of intent). We would rather say that plainly than imply a settled position which does not exist yet.

Why this page carries no bonus figure

As in Ontario, the advertising rules keep "inducements" on the operator’s own site (which is why we say who is registered and under which corporate entity, and stop). If an Alberta page anywhere promises you a figure, that is a reason to read it more carefully rather than less carefully, because the figure is sitting on a page where the rules did not put it!

One practical note. Several operators hold registrations in both provinces and run a separate site for each, so the link on this page is the Alberta one, and the page we write for Ontario carries a different link and a different minimum age (which matters to a reader who moves there).

The age and the help

The age is eighteen in Alberta, which is the provincial drinking age and one year lower than Ontario’s, and registered operators must offer "self-exclusion", with the AGLC running the provincial programme (where a request meant to hold across operators belongs).

Alberta 211 connects callers to addiction and mental-health services across the province, free, at any hour, by phone, text or chat (which makes it the one number on this page worth writing down).

Questions readers ask

When did Alberta open, and what changed on 13 October 2026?

The market opened on 13 July 2026. The thirteenth of October 2026 was the end of the transition period: from that date operators that had been serving Albertans without authorisation are expected to have stopped.

Is Alberta blocking unlicensed sites?

Not as at 27 October 2026. There is no blocklist and no payment blocking on the public record. That is a statement about what has been published, not a judgement about what is lawful.

Why does the same operator have a different link here and in Ontario?

Because the registrations are separate and so are the sites. An operator registered in both provinces runs an Alberta site and an Ontario site, and the link on each page is the one for that province.

Why eighteen here and nineteen in Ontario?

Each province sets its own age, and each has set it at its drinking age: eighteen in Alberta, nineteen in Ontario.
