Written for readers in Australia

This page carries no casino and no link, and the reason is the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, which in Australia makes an online casino game a "prohibited interactive gambling service" (whoever offers it, Australian or foreign) and prohibits advertising one as well. A page listing operators would be that advertisement, so the list is not here, and in our view saying why is the most useful thing this page can do.

What the Act prohibits, and what it leaves alone

The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 prohibits any operator, Australian or foreign, from offering a "prohibited interactive gambling service" to customers in Australia, and online casino games, online slots, online poker and "in-play" sports betting are all inside that definition. Part 7A prohibits advertising those services, while what remains lawful is "pre-match" sports betting with a bookmaker licensed by a state or territory (and the lotteries).

One thing the Act does not do is make you an offender. The prohibitions bind the operator and the advertiser, not the player, and we say so because a page that refuses to show you something owes you a plain account of who the rule is aimed at (and because silence on the point would be read as a warning the statute does not contain).

How it is enforced, and why it reaches a page like this one

The Australian Communications and Media Authority asks internet providers to block "illegal gambling sites" under section 313 of the Telecommunications Act 1997, and it publishes the alphabetical list of blocked domains (a public document rather than a rumour). Those requests reach sites that advertise prohibited services as well as the operators themselves, which means that an affiliate page is squarely inside the mechanism rather than at the edge of it, and civil and criminal penalties apply to both offering and advertising.

The ACMA does not license online casinos; there is no register of authorised ones for us to point to, because there are none to register (which is a different thing from a register that exists and is inconvenient to find). That is why this page ends with help services rather than with a list.

What is coming

The Federal Register of Legislation has announced a "compilation" of the Interactive Gambling Act taking effect on the first of January 2027, bringing in the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Gambling Reform) Act 2026. In our view the direction of travel is tighter rather than looser, and if that changes the position for a page like this one, this page changes with it.

Where to get help

Gambling Help Online is the national service, free and at any hour, on 1800 858 858, with counselling by phone, chat and email, and BetStop is the national "self-exclusion" register, where one registration excludes you from every licensed Australian interactive wagering service and from their marketing (the broadest single decision available here).

Questions readers ask

Am I breaking the law by playing at an offshore casino?

The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 binds the operator and the advertiser, not the player. That is a statement about who the prohibition is aimed at, and not advice about your own position.

Why does this site show casinos to other countries and not to me?

Because in Australia advertising a prohibited interactive gambling service is itself prohibited under Part 7A, and the ACMA’s blocking requests reach sites that advertise as well as sites that operate. The site shows each reader the page their own law allows.

Is there a list of authorised online casinos in Australia?

No. The ACMA does not license online casinos, because online casino games are prohibited. What it publishes is the list of blocked domains, which is the opposite kind of list.

What about sports betting?

Pre-match betting with a bookmaker licensed by an Australian state or territory is lawful; betting in-play online is not. This site is about casino offers and does not cover bookmakers.
